East Kintyre Community Council

(EKCCWFT)

Many years ago, when the first wind turbines started to generate electricity, a fund was set up with Argyll and Bute Council (A&B) to receive sums of money to be distributed to the Community Council areas where the turbines were situated.

This was designed to help financially those areas through grants.

So far EKCCWFT has received money from Beinn an Tuirc 1 and more recently Beinn an Tuirc II, Deucharan Hill Wind and Tangy II.

The EKCCWFT is handled by a Committee comprising of the EKCC Councillors along with three independent members of the public (The current ones are Alasdair Bennett, Kenneth Semple and Lesley Prag. They also have voting powers on the Committee) whose main role is to see that proper governance takes place, in regard to adherence with the A&B rules, in relation to the granting of money to applicants.

It is a condition that EKCCWFT retains 10% of grants received to build up a reserve for the future

Since the first tranche meeting took place there have been 314 grants distributed to a wide variety of applicants who meet the required list of conditions laid down by A&B.

Twice yearly tranche distributions are made in May and November each year.

There is a condition that grants can only be made to applicants living within the geographic area covered by EKCC. However, concessions can be made if there is proof that residents in this area can benefit from organisations such as Campbeltown Cinema, Argyll FM, etc.

An advertisement goes in to the Courier approximately 6 weeks before the tranche meeting is held and application forms are available from the Secretary of EKCC via this web site.

It is hoped that as more turbines are introduced in Kintyre more money will be available for grants.

The next EKWFT meeting, is currently Thursday 3rd May 2018 in

On 2nd November 2017 the Autumn Tranche of the Windfarm Trust was held. The minutes are here and the results are here.
